Sulphur is added to raw rubber to make it more elastic and durable through a process called vulcanization. During this process, sulphur forms cross-links between polymer chains, fundamentally improving the mechanical properties of rubber. Vulcanized rubber is used in products such as tyres and industrial seals.
Sulphur is used as a fungicide and pesticide, effectively helping to control fungi and pests that affect crops, especially in organic farming. It is one of the oldest known pesticides and is approved for use in certified organic agriculture. Sulphur also serves as a valuable plant nutrient, correcting sulphur deficiencies in soils.
